Happy Birthday...

We had a great time celebrating our nieces birthday this evening. The BIG FOUR OH! Woo-hoo. Happy Birthday sweetie! Here's wishing you many, many more!

Here's a parting shot, compliments of Patrick Scoble. Patrick is quite the artist!

It's been a wild week...

I don't really have much to say. Last night I was able to pull myself away from the TV long enough to enjoy some time at the Tulare County Fair. It was wonderful to be able to watch my girls laugh and have a good time on the rides. God knows I needed some laughter.

Today is my nieces' birthday. Happy birthday honey! We'll have some more laughter tonight as we celebrate her fourth year of life. :-)

I'm hopeful that next week will get somewhat back to normal. I still have a job in the midst of all this madness. Somehow it hasn't seemed so important to work.

God Bless you all...

DaveNet: "When you think Taliban, think Nazis. When you think Bin Laden, think Hitler." - This is a must read folks.

Okay... This dude is nuts...

Osama bin Laden talks about his Desire to Destroy the US. This was from an interview in 1988.

Maybe, just maybe...

I've said on this site that I'm conflicted. Bomb them, love them, bomb them, love them... I am a Christian man, there I've said it. You should know that God sent his son to die for us, to set a standard to be followed by all people. We've done a horrible job of living up to it. I'm certain God weeps for us on a daily basis. Yes HE weeps for us, not just Americans, but all of us!

This may very well be one of the best ideas I've seen so far. We have a long road ahead. Let's not get jumpy. Ponder all the questions. Don't make a rash decision. More innocent people will die as a result of this. In the end we need to make sure we ONLY deal with those responsible for this act, not exterminate and entire nation.

As I'm writing these words more thoughts fill my head than I can express. My emotions are like a roller coaster, up and down, up and down. It's been like this for days. I'm sure many others feel the same way, that said I'll leave you with these words...

Romans 12:17-20

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary:

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

When will things seem normal again?

I'm having trouble concentrating on work. I don't know when it's going to end. I'm not alone, Scoble is having trouble also. Anyone know what happened to Zeldman? He appears to be off the air.

The European Union is declaring a day of mourning for the US tragedy. Why the heck aren't we doing the same? Is it about money? I certainly hope not.

Once again I end the day with my head swimming around the events of Tuesday. Please God make it end soon.

Peace...

I'm reading web sites all over calling for Peace. My heart agrees but my gut tells me I want to see the people responsible for this heinous and cowardly act brought to justice. Peace is of course the ultimate goal for most nations but if the people we're dealing with are the radicals we believe them to be you can just forget it. If this attack was by a bin Laden type radical you must understand that they believe they're doing the right thing! They believe God will reward them for killing Americans, plain and simple. So how do you deal with that sort of thinking? When we've answered that question we can work towards peace, until then we're in for a long battle against terrorism.

People are afraid we'll lose too many Americans in a war. Yes we will lose Americans and other countries will lose young men and women. What kind of choices do we have? Think about it for a couple of seconds and what conclusion do you reach? We can turn the other cheek or we can take action. Black and white. There is NO grey area. If we turn the other cheek we will continue to lose Americans and the people responsible for this act will grow in power if left unchecked. Do you remember a guy by the name of Hitler? He was left unchecked for too long and we all know what happened. This is a serious time and it calls for serious action.

We cannot back down.

A New Day?

Somehow today doesn't seem so new. The events of yesterday are still swirling around in my brain. I can't get the pictures out of my head. I think this is what the bozo's that did this wanted. Terrorism is a form of rape. It's not about the act itself, it's about POWER. I have control over you and you can't do a darned thing about it.

Well I got news for you. Whoever did this doesn't have too many days left on the face of this good Earth. Start counting, your days are numbered. And that's only the beginning. A sleeping giant was awakened yesterday and he's in a very bad mood!

There is talk that Jewish people will be blamed for this. DO NOT let this happen people. It's not the fault of Jewish people. It's a group of wacko's, not an entire ethnic group. That's ridiculous. Don't let your fears lead to war on a group of people.

This is hard to understand. I won't pretend to understand what would justify an attack like this. This is beyond tragic.

Here are some sites tracking the story.

Scripting News
CNN
MSNBC

There are obviously more. Scripting isn't overloaded like CNN and MSNBC; Dave, of Scripting News, is pretty darned plugged in. It could be a great alternative site for information.

I have no idea what to say this morning...

The United States of America has been attacked by terrorist. They've managed to take the World Trade Center building down in New York City. They've hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C. I've heard reports of up to six hijacked commercial planes used to commit this horrible crime.

There are also reports of dancing in the streets in other countries. Dancing? Why? Is the US so bad? I'll never understand this.

God bless you all...

During the Visio 2002 development cycle I worked on a feature called Find Shape. This feature is one of Visio's first web services. The idea behind it is to allow folks to look for shapes on their local computer or across the web without really caring where the shape came from. Find Shape is even extensible. Any third party could create a Shape Provider that could query their own web site, you could even to a P2P Find Shape Provider if you wanted!

The vision is finally taking off with the release of Visio Enterprise Network Equipment(V.E.N.T) and the addition of some new shapes to our own shape database. Today if you search for "smart clip art" and select the "All of these words" radio button you'll find a completely new stencil of shapes to play with. These are only available to folks with the English language version of Visio because they haven't been localized, but it's a start!

Lunch discussions...

Just finished lunch with Paul and Carlos. I'm not going to link to them because they think weblogging is stoopid. That about sum it up Carlos? :-)

They did however say that I have to link to Richard at least once a day or it just wouldn't be right, so here's a gratuitous link just for you guys. You're right Carlos I do mention Richard a lot. In fact I linked to him twice last week. But you're exaggerating when you say I do it every day, I haven't mentioned Richard once this week, not once. Richard are you listening to this non-sense?

And you though I linked to him too much...

Good Mornin' Y'All...

Nothing too exciting going on these days. We had a nice quiet weekend, which is good for a change! :-) I managed to catch Planet of the Apes and Kim got to veg a bit. Planet of the Apes was ok. The special effects and makeup were outstanding. Tim Roth was a really good bad guy; I really wanted to kick his teeth in! If you still haven't seen it catch a matinee or wait for it to come out on video.

Since Dave at Scripting News is doing searches for first names I thought I'd join in on the madness. After searching through 60 Google pages I decide enough was enough and stopped looking for myself! :-) Searching for Fahrni on the other hand led me to find our old website on about page #4, but strangely enough I didn't find this site. Weird.

Back to the code mines...
