RC's dark secret - [9:09 AM]

Movie line of the week - [8:41 AM]

You gotta love the movies. Good morning movie liners.

This weeks line comes from a great little family film. I was finally able to see it over the Thanksgiving break. The entire family really enjoyed it. The lines won't be too tough to guess, but they're great lines. Two actors, here goes....

Actor #1: How about, "The Molantator"?
Actor #2: Molanator. I like it.

Mono 0.29 Released - [8:20 AM]

Mono Project News: "There are big breaking news: Mono JIT on PowerPC runs Hello World, ASP.NET is feature complete, AppDomain unloading is supported and 64-bit ports of HPPA and SPARCv9 are available now. A new group of developers from Mainsoft has been contributing extensively to ADO.NET and ASP.NET." - If you think the CLR isn't serious, think again. The idea of writing one codebase that runs on different OS's opens doors, yes I know about Java, but the CLR is something I can get excited about, it's something I'm actually interested in.

Weblogs to the rescue - [8:16 AM]

Yesterday I needed to create a new ASP.NET project so I could test some stuff out. So I fired up Visual Studio.NET, selected File > New > Project... > Visual C# Projects > ASP.NET Web Application, typed in a goofy name, and clicked OK. I was greeted by an error message that threw me for a loop.

"Visual Studio .NET has detected that the specified Web server is not running ASP.NET version 1.1. You will be unable to run ASP.NET Web applications or services."

That's clearly a bunch of hooey. I do have ASP.NET 1.1 installed and it used to work. After twiddlin' my thumbs for a while trying to figure out what happened I finally caved and Google'd out the answer. And wouldn't you know it... I found the answer to my problem on a weblog.

A doozie of a question - [8:12 AM]

Scoble: "Hey, since we're gonna have to do two formats, why shouldn't Microsoft invent a third?" - And why shouldn't Microsoft create the new standard? If they create their own I'll predict that it will win, not because it's the best, because it'll have the best marketing machine in the world behind it. Just like many products that come out of Microsoft it can be the marketing that sells it, not necessarily its' technical prowess. That's why people use stuff like FrontPage for web design. Yes it's easy to use but it's been marketed to the right crowd. The Average Joe can create a page. If Microsoft wants to create a new format it'll probably "win" in the end.

Too bad folks didn't just come together and support RSS as a standard. I like it and don't know a thing about Atom so I'll be sticking with RSS, hopefully Blogger will continue to support it?

Dang! - [9:07 AM]

Scoble: "We're going to Merced today." - It would be great to give Scoble a tour of our new almond processing plant and our pistachio processing facility. They're quite impressive. In fact the almond plant is the largest in the US and fully automated. Makes for great tours, big ooooo's and ahhhhhh's. Watching someone monitor, and control, the floor from a Table PC is especially impressive. We're just scratching the surface of what we could be doing!

Nice Thanksgiving, and Birthday - [8:44 AM]

Thanksgiving is always a great time in the Fahrni household. This year we managed to get most of the family together at my mom's house for turkey and all the fixings. My mom cooks enough to feed a small army, she always has. Thanks Mom, we had a great time!

As is tradition we went to the movies on Friday. Since Warner Brothers didn't gift us with a new Harry Potter film we decided to see Disney's The Haunted Mansion. I liked it, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have small children that are easily scared. There are a couple of scenes that scared me to death!

My birthday was Saturday. I love Halo on the XBox, but my all time favorite game is still Mario Kart for the N64. No joke. I love the gameplay. Since Kim knows this all too well she and the girls decided to get me Mario Kart: Double Dash!! for our GameCube! It was a very pleasant surprise! We played a few rounds Saturday and I can see it's going to take some getting used to. You have two people in your kart, a nice twist, but it takes time to figure out how to properly control both riders. Games like these are precisely why we bought a GameCube when it first hit the shelves. Nintendo has the BEST character games on the market, IMHO. Playstation and XBox can't touch them when it comes to good family games.

Tis the season - [8:32 AM]

... to be cracking skulls!

Our annual alumni football game is coming up! We've been practicing since early November and started hitting last Sunday. I hope this old body can hold out long enough to get on the field. I'm feeling kind of creaky. As Indiana would say, "It's not the age, it's the mileage."

This year we're at home on a brand new field. Let's hope we can win it in front of the hometown fans.
