Farewell Microsoft - [10:42 PM]
Ten plus years, three company name changes, one acquisition, and umpteen releases later I'm calling it quits with Visio/Microsoft. After the release of Visio 2003 management decided for business reasons they wanted all development in Seattle, and eventually Redmond. It had been rumor for months, then August 26th we got the word. Move to Redmond, find another job within Microsoft, or move on. I've elected to move on. My years working on Visio, and more importantly working with the fine folks on the Visio product team, are treasured memories. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful experience.
So what's next? Next is now. I've started a new gig working with RC on enterprise goodness for Paramount Farms. Paramount is doing some seriously cool automation in the processing plant, with large portions of the system written in .NET and running on Windows based servers. I'm looking forward to new challenges and living in the managed code world.
Now you know why I've been so busy. Harvest madness is in full swing and RC and I are working 4PM to 4AM because someone from the IT/Development staff must be here 24/7 in case of hardware or software problems. It's a very interesting process; trust me, the geek in you would drool at some of the stuff out here. The teams kick butt and are going to stretch my brain in new and exciting ways.
So off we go... into a new world...
