Order of the Phoenix teaser - [4:48 PM]

The Philadelphia Daily News has a couple of interesting teases for those of us interested in all things Potter. Apparently this is how the book opens...

"The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive...The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four."

I tried to convince my wife the other night that we needed to buy two copies of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix so we wouldn't fight over who got to read it first. [via HPANA Phoenix Central]

Potter Casting Rumors - [9:29 AM]

Earlier in the week I posted about Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban casting. I said I thought the guy leading the way for the role as Dumbledore was without a doubt the WRONG choice but I couldn't recall his name.

The actor is Sir Michael Gambon, and he does NOT fit the part. I hope they consider others.

Encouraging... - [11:53 AM]

I was encouraged by what our President had to say last night. On the flip side I'm not sure how we'll get it all done but hopefully there are some smart, open minded, people working to create a workable solution. Health care, AIDS relief, and the thing that actually perked my ears.... Technology. Everyone is going to talk about the war with Iraq so I won't touch on that. I'd rather talk about the Technology stuff.

President Bush said he'd like to reduce our dependency on foreign oil, that's a good thing, and the way he wants to do it is very encouraging. We have a lot of smart people in this country and others around the world that could help in this area. Hydrogen powered vehicles is something, believe it or not, I think about often. I'd love to be able to drive a car that doesn't pollute and gets me from point 'A' to point 'B' and everywhere in between. Sure I could buy a hybrid today, and I've considered it, but my ultimate goal is to own a vehicle that doesn't use gas, period. Our car companies and oil producers will hopefully take the challenge leveled by President Bush to create clean, efficient, vehicles. Why the oil companies? Well they'll have to buy in or it'll never happen. Start thinking about it now. Begin the transformation to a supplier of hydrogen based fuels. We need it, especially here in California's San Joaquin Valley, so please start now. We can do it.

It has everything to do with poor budget management and a little bit to do with a certain energy company putting the screws to us in a time of crisis.

I came in this morning and checked my e-mail right away, but I didn't have any offers to play the Knight Bus driver in Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, YET! I'll keep working at it.

Anyone have contacts in Hollywood?

I pulled the third book out last night and started reading it, we're also listening to the third book again! Here's hoping the movie can do the book justice.

Scripting News: "What's the best you can do with a table that has three columns like the one on Weblogs.Com." - This is precisely why this page uses tables instead of CSS boxes. I can't figure out how to get a nice three column layout that behaves just like this page behaves with tables. If I could find one that flows nicely as you resize the window I'd replace the tables on this page with it in a heartbeat!

Visio Old Timer

I've been exchanging e-mail with a Visio old timer over the past few days and it's really nice to know he's still alive and kicking. Nice site Troy, check out those pictures from the 1998 company Christmas party.

Good Monday Mornin'! - [10:02 AM]

What a weekend! We finally managed to get some of our sprinkler system hooked up in our side yard, yippee! We've been wanting to turn that into a nice coffee sippin' area for some time. Good start.

Congratulations Tampa Bay Buccaneers! They totally dominated the game yesterday. The defense was absolutely incredible, three touchdowns on defense, five picks! An amazing job! I'm sure the welcome home will be something else for team and Disney World will be Buc central for quite a while. Congrats to the Raiders as well. They had an amazing season but had to face a foe that knew them inside and out. How could they possibly know they'd face Gruden for all the marbles?

All Potter

The cast for Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban is starting to firm up. There are reports that Gary Oldman has signed up to play Sirius Black, excellent! Apparently David Thewlis will play professor Lupin, my favorite character from book three. The big question for me as a fan is who is going to play Professor Dumbledore? Richard Harris was so perfect it's going to be difficult to find a replacement. The gentleman rumored to be his replacement seems like a horrible fit to me (can't remember his name, sorry). He just doesn't fit the look, or stature, or Dumbledore. I still think Max von Sydow would be a perfect fit for the part.

I think they should cast me as the Knight Bus driver! Hey Potter casting crew, what do you think? I'll do it for the price of a ticket and a place to stay!
