Blogrolling - [4:12 PM]

So just how many folks out there support the <link rel="blogroll"> tag?

I really need to find some time to write some fun code. I started messing with OPML almost a year ago and was never able to finish it, just too darned busy with my real job. I thought it would be interesting to be able to crawl a blogroll and create a nifty little diagram from it. Is anyone out there doing this?

Here's an example of the "blogroll" tag, snagged from Scripting News...

From this little tag I think you could create a drawing like the one below. Starting at a given URL and branching out n levels showing the relationship between weblogs. This picture is only one level deep.

I think it looks cool and since I'm waiting on a large build I thought I'd share.

On fire! - [4:00 PM]

Man John Robb is on fire today. A couple of posts have really grabbed my attention. One on e-mail clients and another on supplying folks in the Middle East with weblogs prior to the war.

Both just cook as far as I'm concerned.

DARN! I don't like to repeat movie lines, I've only done it once before now. I thought I'd done this line before but searching my site, using Google site search on Wednesday night(December 18th) didn't turn up any hits for "Santa Clause" so I thought I was safe. WRONG! My brother informed me I'd already used this line. NOTE: The Google search now works, but look at the cache date, it's December 19th. Oh well...

I've been absolutely hammered at work lately. I cannot believe it's Thursday already!!!!

Zap 'em! - [8:45 AM]

NY Times: "Today, the Federal Trade Commission is expected to announce plans for a nationwide do-not-call list." - This is great! Hopefully we can get a do-no-spam list as well. I'd love that! My favorite quote from the article "Telemarketing is annoying — until it's something you need..." Hey if I need something I have this wonderful thing called a brain which I use in times of need to go find what it is I need, things are just a few keystrokes away these days. Ever hear of Google? Drop me your home phone number Mr. Gill and I'll call you about dinner time to give you a rundown of this amazing technology.

We need to get that spam king guy everyone is onto and this guy in a room with the people they "serve" and see what happens.

Okay, okay... - [10:16 PM]

So I didn't go home. I had to merge some changes, now I'm rebuilding the world to make sure I didn't break anything.

Anywho, while I was waiting I browsed over to Mr. Snell's site and by golly I think he has a swell idea. Google folks please add Ping() to Google so we can tell you when our pages change. That would be sweet!

I could just add the following line to my ping batch file...

Down to the wire - [9:47 PM]

I hate deadlines! Before you know it they're staring you in the face! I tend to get all freaked out at this time and run around waving my hands in the air screaming the sky is falling, the sky is falling. The funny thing about it is... I tend to do my best work when doom is just over the horizon. Why is that?

I'm getting too old to live in front of my PC and my girls are growing up. Sheese!!! No matter I'm just about done anyway. Rattle, rattle, rattle... I need sleep.

It's raining again, time to go home.

When it rains, it pours... - [11:17 AM]

We finally got some rain here in the Valley. It's been raining all morning. We're supposed to have high winds this afternoon, maybe we'll get some thunderstorms tonight! They're always fun to watch.

C# to C++

For those of you that would like to leverage existing C++ code from C# there a nice article on MSDN that talks about doing just that. It may be useful to some and not others, PInvoke may be more useful for instance, but it's worth a read to see how you could do it if you wanted to. Being able to use existing code is always important.

Ever have... - [5:13 PM]

It's been one of those days today. I've spent the better part of the afternoon trying to figure out a couple of different things only to run into dead-ends and brick walls. A non-productive day when I need it the most. Sometimes I feel like writing code is akin to writing a book. There are days when the thoughts are flowing, along with the code, and others where you sit and stare. Today was a sit and stare day.

What's the upside to it? I get to go home and home is a good place to be.

Tomorrow will be better.
