Friday, April 26, 2002 [4:56 PM] Howdy fellow graduate! Hank Vigil is a fellow Exeterite. Hi Hank! [11:22 AM] How'd I forget that? One year ago yesterday we kicked Visio 2002 out the door. Maybe not out the door but at least to manufacturing. It didn't actually see the light of day until the end of May. [9:10 AM] Movie line of the week answer. Yesterday's movie line was from 1993's Jurassic Park, can you believe it's been nine years? This movie was the beginning of a new generation of CGI. Excellent flick. Our winner was Mr. Adam Vandenberg, AGAIN! Congratulations Adam. Runner's up were Ben Padilla and Brian Landers, you guys came in a little too late! Brian included a couple of links to connection machines! Sweet! I love it when folks include trivia with their guesses. As Brian says "If Darth Vader had a supercomputer, this would be the machine." Tuesday, April 23, 2002 [9:52 AM] Gates Lots and lots of talk about Gates' testimony yesterday. Take your pick of standard reporting. Then you can read some of the more opinionated views. I think they're more fun to read myself. Archive problems I'm sorry if you've been trying to get to my archives for last week's post. I'm having some trouble with them but I hope to straighten them out soon! Stay tuned! Extreme? I'm a Christian, Zacarias Moussaoui is a Muslim. He hates me for what I am, what I believe, and where I live. He's getting ready to go to trial for conspiring in the September 11 terror attacks. Read the article. While I don't agree with Mr. Moussaoui I think you have to give him credit for at least believing in something, and being willing to die for it. He's calling us to task. All I can say is be prepared. Monday, April 22, 2002 [9:10 AM] No surprise Wired: "At a hearing last week, Feinstein showed her colleagues a pirated movie that she said an aide had downloaded from a file-trading service." - Ms. Feinstein. There's your target, the aide that downloaded the illegal copy from the file-trading service. Notice the word "file-trading" doesn't imply illegal copies of media? Go after the folks that are breaking the law not the people that want a convenient way to listen, or view, the media they purchased legally. [via Scripting News] So... How do you start your morning? Mine starts with a quad mocha followed by a quick check of last nights build and a scan through e-mail to see if there are any gotchas that need taking care of. Then I visit Scripting News, Weblogs.com, and News.com. Sometimes I post to my blog right away, other times I don't. It depends on what I feel like saying. I think about how my day started ten years ago. The only difference from ten years past? Scripting News, Weblogs.com, and News.com. Old habits die hard. Around this time in 1992 I was getting my feet wet with a product called Mainline. Mainline was the codename for what was to become Visio 1.0. At the time we were busy trying to figure out how to automate the testing of the UI and other pieces, like the recalc engine behind ever Visio shape. My first two years at Visio were the most rewarding of my software "career" (I hate that word, career.) and I'll always look back on them with fond memories.
